Man-Cave v3.0

20240520 Dampening the Move
This is roughly how the layout will be. The only confirmed setting would be the 5 feet (1500mm) shelving. After getting another 4-feet shelf, I hope to get a nice 4-feet ‘L-shaped’ table someday.

So, yes, I have a new man-cave and it’s 100% endorsed by my Wife. She even insist I display all my work outside the lounge… (OK, let’s not get too hasty in this, Hun). Anyway, not only is it brighter, had no ventilation, has minimal plug and light points, I can finally utilise 100% space available. Oh, since it is next to the kitchen, I won’t get thirsty too and my Wife does not have to shout to get me.

Shout.

To get me.

Shout.

Actually, you know, this means, she can also walk in anytime since the door or rather, the absence of it is a big arch and now, not shout. But the main point is that now, I can customise MY room as much as I want without worry (just so long as I observe safety precautions, that is).

Another one bites the dust

Halfway moving my stuff, it was decided that the flooring upstairs needs to be well, become a new one. I am both happy and annoyed at the same time mainly because of a few issues:
1. The Contractor has very limited time as he would be away during the time we are available,
2. There would be a lot of dust since his sub-cons would be cutting stuff inside the house, where
3. All the material would also be stored in there.
4. While he is away, he could not guarantee anything going missing.
5. I have to re-pack my stuff

So, yeah, the last part was bad since I had to make a few trips to get them moved. In the end, I had to re-pack my stuff and in hindsight, LISTENED to my Wife to stuff them into WATERPROOF refuse bin bags.

There are quite a lot of double copies of a kit as a result of my bad habit of squirrelling them in different locations and then forgetting about them. Most of these were from helping out Hobby shops when the customer did a no-show for their reserved item or, from a Sale. I’d need to get another shelf and sad to say, once that is full, even after I have installed some higher ceiling shelving, there are still more boxes yet to be processed.

The Bad news

A little over a week later, it was time to unpack again and put everything onto the shelf. At first, it was going well and all was happy in the cave. But halfway, I noticed some water spills on the floor. Then there’s a small ponding on top of one of the plastic containers. And that’s where I started to panic. Looking at the counter, there was water all over and unfortunately, the boxes (which I did not put into the refuse bags) were soaked on their bottom. After recovering from as much as I can, the damage was not as extensive although the outer box was wet. Hopefully, by opening and putting the boxes for a slow drying, I might get them back. Worst case scenario would be me making the models or sell them off (with a 10000% markup?)

Now, the bad news. The Randy Cooper MLEV box which houses some ma.K kits was soaked. Once they dried out, I’d have to make some decisions. The other box in the middle was packed with Eaglemoss Delorean parts which I have yet to build. And some M-41 Pulse Rifles, some more model kits…
There is a layer of water ponding on the cover of the blue plastic container. At first, I thought it was because of the rain as there is a gap on the roofing (out of frame on the right). However, if this was true, then the metal shelf on the right would be wet but in fact, was not. So, the only conclusion was that something had happened to the water tap above the plastic container. But upon inspection, it was dry.
