RX-78 GP Type 04G

Finally, I got the 1/20 RX-78 Type 04G from Infinite Creation Workshop.

Long ago, I always wanted a Gundam Head, especially the one I saw from the cover of the Gundam Sentinels book, the MSA-011 Ex-s. And boy, I kept hoping Bandai would come out with it. Fast forward two decades later, no Gundam head.

Many companies did try their best efforts such as G-Systems with their awesome resin kits. And for the past few years, there were some effort by Chinese companies but it was not until Magnifier came out with this 1/20 which to me, is the largest styrene model for a Gundam head.

There were 12 sprues in the box, including a PU set, a decal sheet, a LED light set and an assembly manual. Plus, the detail quality for this model is quite decent. For bonus, it has moving parts too!

Hoo-boy. What have I gotten myself into… This is big and I mean, bigger than my fist, big! And thanks to Raymond Loke, this is now mine and yeah, there are only two left at Infinite Creation Workshop.

Just a brief glance at the instructions, its possible to modify the model and to be honest, the first thing I would do would be to look into the sensor and also the eyes section. Although the kit comes with a set of pre-wired LEDs and a 2x AAA battery pack, I would need to do my own effects. And maybe also learn how to control some motors with the microprocessor too.

The parts are for the Eyes and the upper sensor. As for the remaining part, I need to see where it fits in the model

I have not opened this yet but this is basically a set of pre-wired LED (green?) connected to a 2x AAA battery case. As for the metal thing, its for the area under the chin.

The details are there And for its size, I think its good enough. Somehow, I was wishing the panel lines were thinner and the details were’nt so.. basic like a toy.

Let’s read the manual!

RX78 Type04G 020: Exploring the Manual
This page deals with the assembly of the upper sensor and initially, it should be very simple but if you look closer, it was designed to be moveable. You will need to put in the longest LED here.

The remaining LEDs are for the eyes and where the two halves are put together to form the basic shape of the head, I am a little worried as this means I would need to look for small decent servo/motors.

RX78 Type04G 022: Exploring the Manual
To be honest, I am not very worried about the wiring since the mode has been designed to take into account. I am more worried about the thickness of the head as from the photos and the video, it is very thin as it someone squashed it sideways.

Here is the neck assembly. Yeah, it can move

Here is where I would need to think about where to put the battery casing as from how tis manual describes, it would be put inside the model. And to remove it, would be a challenge. The picture on right shows what happens when more parts are put in and that’s only the start!

I might think about that F18/F19 parts to house the batteries instead….
