12072022 The Webcam part 02

So, about one month later, the varifocal lens is here! And it is actually quite light, making me self-doubt my decision not to get the much bigger (but more expensive) lens. Initial testing on the Works PC looks good but the focusing is very tight, just like those CCTV cameras. If you turn the lens a smidgen, it will lose focus.

The outer diameter of this lens is about 28mm. The seller really protected it with a lot of padding.
It fits into the Webcam
The threads of this M12 mount is very fine and I have to slowly twist it in. It took me a few tries because it keeps getting bent.
I have to do this very carefully so as not to destroy the M12 mount which looks plasticky and fragile.
Webcam Temporary clamp looks good on the PVC Frame
Finally, it is done and I use one of those small little spring clamps to keep it in place.
The varifocal lens is too big for the cover to put back in
I cannot put the front cover back as the lens’s neck is too big.
I do not want to close it either since I think, the microphone might be less sensitive.

Anyway, with the Webcam rig set up, it is only a matter of time before I can fully test it. I have to wait for the whole house to be asleep as through experience, the mic will definitely pickup far away sounds except for the human voice in front of it. Oh well, I hope this is not true when I get to test it out. But I can tell you, I do not like how my voice sounds.

I hope to test this soon.
