20240812 The simplest mistake

My joy turned to anger.

The parcel came in the afternoon and I was so happy when I opened the box. The white PCBs were so beautiful and I could not wait to get home. After populating the board, I powered it up and that is when everything went downhill on so many levels.

  1. The battery was plugged in wrongly
I thought I saw smoke coming out but I think it was just dirt from my glasses. Both the red (charging) and blue (complete) LEDs were on, which is a bad thing. After looking carefully at the sockets, I realised their polarities were mixed. This pisses me off because I spent a lot of time correcting it.
  2. The latest design change was not updated
This was the main reason which caused the error above. After pulling up the EaglePCB v 7.7.0., I realised the latest design was correct but it was not updated in the files I sent to JLCPCB.
  3. There are more errors
Yep, the is another error which I took for granted. Although from the circuit diagram level, it is OK but I would like it to be correct in the end. In most charger modules, the battery output and the circuit output are parallel. In this situation, I linked the battery connections to the circuit.

It will be another three weeks

The question on my mind right now is why were the two red and blue leds on together? Maybe it was when the battery was inserted the wrong way. Then again, on the datasheet, the IC has polarity reversal protection. The only answer would be to de-solder the module and test it. Another alternative would be to use a fresh module, which, during the Move was lost. So, I would have to order some again which would arrive at the end of the month. The same goes for the revised PCB too. Sigh.

This is what the charger would have looked and I am so angry that such a simple design can have mistakes.

Where to get what (no, not the Boards and I have not produced them not got a link to sell them yet):
