20251030 Spinner: Top Revolving Light New PCB Design pt.4

The final design for the revolving light located at the top of the Spinner arrived today. I made a mistake of using 5 LEDs which in fact, was supposed to be 6 LEDs. The software was done quite long ago, which according to my YouTube video, was finalised sometime on 5th August, 2019. Yeah, that was more than 6 years already! And so, finally, the PCB was able to show how the effect can be achieved.

THE PCB from JLCPCB

In the beginning, I was quite worried that JLCPCB might not be able to produce my design. I mean, the board was only 8mm big, with some very small plated through-holes and a very non-conventional design. But they succeeded and without any emails asking me stuff. This is one of the main reasons why I stuck with JLCPCB (even with their slight increase in pricing this year) as most of my designs are unconventional.

Although the PCB looked small (that is my thumb), as long as you have the solder flux and a pencil tip soldering iron, soldering it is half the problem. The main reason why it took so long was that I need to make sure the 0805 SMD LEDs are properly aligned to the solder pads inside the cut out slots. In the beginning, I was talking of making some kind of soldering jig to make things easier but in the end, all I needed was a pair of reverse heatsink tweezers.
The old (right) and the new (left). The old looked a little messy due to the excess solder flux when I wanted to salvage the LEDs but eventually left them alone.

The revolving light is as good as it gets but I am sure someone else already has done a better job.

The Video

So, yeah, sorry for the lack of music as it’s late into the night and I do not want YouTube to give me problems on my choices. Expect the usual heavy breathing and sighing.
