One thing I liked about Scale model kits is their ability to display a model in a cross-section or as a cutaway concept. My first memory would be the large aeroplanes stationed at the showrooms of a Travel Agency. I was mesmerised by exposed sections of the model showing the detailed seats and its insides. Year later, I would be shown a copy of a Tamiya Catalogue which also shows the cutaway sections of a British Tank.
Accuracy
When I look at cutaway models, there is always one point which stops me from going further. That point would be the source material. SciFi models are fiction and therefore, it is quite hard for me to accept just any source material. The Star Wars and Star Trek do have their ‘Official’ source established in books and that is already good for me. The Blockade Runner you see below is made by Hiromitsu Satoh, which I believe was inspired from the Official Star Wars Cutaway books.
If you go to his Facebook page, you will see more of his work and yes, his Millenium Falcon is impressive too. The progress videos and images shows that this is a 3D printed and scratch-built model at about two feet in length.
