20260116 My Master Replicas 2049 Spinner has arrived

So, my Master Replicas’s Blade Runner 2049 Spinner is on the way to me. At the time of writing, I have cleared Customs and should be getting it sometime early next week. OK, it just arrived. And I am so excited. Yipee. Yahoo. Really.

But here’s the thing; reading off postings from both Forums and Facebook, it is immediately apparent not many are looking at it in a very favourable light. I have no idea why I decided to get one, maybe because of it coming from Master Replicas (which I eventually found out that it was from Insight Editions). Sideshow and MR along with Insight just sold the die-cast. Anyway, I am aware of the various details and flaws based on the images on the Website. A month later or so, there were more images, especially from the Insight Editions which revealed what I was asking; the underside.

This just dropped in a few minutes ago while I was drafting up for today’s Blog entry, which was about… the Master Replicas 2049 Blade Runner Spinner. Anyhoo, its in the office and I do not feel like telling everyone I have a new ‘toy’.

In general, the die-cast is about half an inch smaller than the 33cm 1/24th scale model kit offered by Fujimi around the 2010’s. To be honest, I was expecting the die-cast to be a lot bigger for the money I am paying for but here we are. For the uninitiated, it is an OK product and the only complain would be the fixed rear tires and the non-opening doors. But to Blade Runner fans, the list was longer, with the body paint being the first casualty.

Granted that the original Prop’s Blue colour (Pantone 464C) went showed up as a completely different shade altogether due to the lighting on set. There are other ‘fails’ which makes the whole die-cast felt as if it is just a generic item using the name of the Movie. But for me, as I sigh, (It just arrived) because, sigh, I know there is a lot of work, especially metal-work and I have absolutely zero skills in that area. Even just looking at it from lighting point of view, there are a mountain of things to ‘correct’. And by the time it is done, if it can be done, what is left would be the shelf. I am sure there would be a lot of enterprising fellows who would start offering solutions such as lighting, accurizing parts and decals, and even, well, figures.

Until I get back home tonight, it is what it is, Folks.
