Bandai’s Star Trek Enterprise-E by Stuart Foley

About 2 decades ago, Bandai manufactured four pre-painted Star Trek models namely the NX-01, the Enterprise-A, the Enterprise-E and Voyager. It was a surprise to everyone as these pre-painted models are so crisp and detailed. However, at that time, they were using yellow bulbs which was not a great idea. If you leave the model on for too long, the bulbs can get worryingly hot. Another disadvantage is that bulbs do not last long compared to LEDs. It is very difficult to re-open the model to fix that burnt bulb.

But that is not the reason I did not get any of them. Bulbs throw a yellowish light and when it hits the clear blue parts, which these models have, the result would be bluish green effect. I could change the bulbs to white LEDs but they have very narrow viewing angles compared to bulbs. This would mean more work instead of a simple direct replacement.

It’s too late now as they are rare and do fetch a high price.
