20230212 Spinner’s External Lights

NEWSLETTER

There are a lot of lights on the Spinner. At the last count on my design, it was about 65 LEDs. I wanted to put up the information about the lights for a very long time. It was neither on my previous Website nor on my Facebook Page, Piscean Works. And so, this blog post more or less have some closure.

THE ROOF LIGHTS

There are 8 revolving lights and 7 blinkers on the roof of Gaff’s Spinner. I had some error with the colour of the rear lights a few years ago but after revisiting the Movie again, the colours were Blue. Every time I see the revolving lights, I had to rewind again and again because these light’s motors are spinning at different rates. So, its like all the lights are lit up at random. But I did not program them as such since this would involve even more microcontrollers.

Colours of the lights are:
Left Blinkers: Red, Blue, White, Blue (rear)
Right Blinker: Blue, Red, Blue (rear)
Revolving Lights: Yellow, Blue, Yellow, Blue, Yellow
Rear revolving light at the body next to the Right Blinker: Blue
Slow revolving light on the far Rigth: Yellow
Revolving light below the middle Yellow Revolving Light: White

BOTTOM LIGHTS

The bottom lights are much simpler. You have a set of 4 Red and Blue blinkers and a pair of alternating white round blinker. And in once scene where the Spinner was flying, there was a red light underneath too

The bottom has 4 sets of red/blue blinkers.
Then there are two round white blinkers, blinking alternately.
The underneath red (outside)/blue (inside) blinker shown on the left above, or just under where Deckard is sitting is not in sync with the rest of the red/blue lights.
This is another Spinner which could be a model. Its rear left red/blue blinkers are not in sync with the rest.

THE REAR BLUE LIGHTS

This took me quite a while because honestly, I could not focus after a few minutes each time I tried to follow the story. It was that boring. But after many attempts and some timely skipping, I found the answers I was looking for. The rear blinking and revolving lights were Blue.

The rear thrusters were alternating between warm-white and white. So I chose White instead.
In the scene, as the rear lights turned on, the Spinner’s body reflected the lights, which was blue.
On another note, the squarish or pentagon shape in front of Gaff’s console was never lit. It’s just light gray.
See that small Spinner on the right on the landing pad?
And over here, the yellowish reflective bar near the rear wheels were actually lit. And so were the thrusters.
This scene confirms that the rear blinking lights were blue.
And over here, if you zoom closer in the movie (about 24 mins, after they entered Leon’s apartment), you can actually see the blue revolving light (unlit here).
This is also the time where the white revolving light was clearly shown and has a different speed.

In this almost ending scene, the rear blue revolving light was switched on.
[2025] Look at the front of the Spinner’s cockpit. The White light looks like a 2 feet fluorescent tube. In the model, that space is about 25.6mm. So,

So, I have updated this image.
But the work is not done as I have to update the circuit diagram and also the assembly manual too.
