I was aiming for the Cucuruz Doan’s Island version but then, I saw these costs almost half the asking price. Sure I won’t get the nicer looking weapons, better details and also the rocket launcher among other things but hey, it is HALF the price!

One thing I noticed is, that in most Gundam animes, there is always that grandfather RX-78 mobile suit. And the Zakus always came in as the bad guys. Then you would have other models such as the RGM-79’s, GunTanks, and so on. This time, I am taking particular notice on the Guncannon. The Red RX-77-2 mobile suit with twin powerful guns perched on its shoulders. (And in some cases, rocket pods). I suppose they kept on using the same mobile suits as most people, even those who are not familiar, would recognise them as being from the Gundam Universe. Me? I would prefer Gundam Sentinel designs but that is another story.

I was never into this design, mainly because of its over-simplified head, as if someone fitted a bulky albino with a baseball cap. This all changed when I was planning to hopefully do a Gundam model similar to the G-Commander aka RX-92 LAS (Land Armor System). If you look at this design, the unit carries two very basic mobile suits. I have searched the Internet for a proper looking 30mm kits which are fully customizable (read buying lots of them) but nothing looked appropriate. Eventually, I settled on the Guncannon with the Jesta coming in second (alas, the design I wanted was a P-Bandai version and the normal Jestas had very big shoulders.)

The pair of bulky red Guncannons sort of fits the bill. Since I bought the current HG version and not the newer Cucuruz Doan Island version, this move encourages me to modify the model as I see fit.

This is the latest version of the Guncannon from Cucuruz Doan’s Island series.

The RX-72 LAS aka G-Commander

There is very little known about this except that it came out as a Garage resin kit from Kotobukiya, sometime in the late mid-90’s. The core mecha used was a RX-92 Nu Gundam prototype, carrying two mobile suits which I read from Facebook comments were stripped down Jegans. So, my plan was to have some sort of vehicle carrying the two Guncannons with missile support.
