It is hard to take anyone seriously if they claimed to have attended Malcom 2025 or gone to any Modeling events, telling you that they did not buy anything. And spending on Hotels, Food, Petrol and Tolls do not count. OK, they may be telling the truth since most of the Products were geared towards Cars, Bikes, Planes, Tanks, Military, etc. Anything but Sci-Fi. In these Events, you would be able to test, and get the latest items/ tools too. For me, my mission this time is to replenish the already mucky or dried-up paints and weathering enamels, and look at some model kits that could potentially fit into my day-dreaming projects of the time.

Of course, you can wait a little where there is a high chance they would trickle down to the local Hobby Shops or, maybe get them from Shopee?

So, I can consider that as one of my Side Missions, which is better than getting lost into the sea of humans.

Toypanic @Midland Parks Center 1Stop

My Plan more or less fell apart on my first stop, which is ToyPanic. Two days before, I bought the 1/35 Plamax Falke from them online with the option for self-collect at their Base 1 location in Midland Park Centre. Upon arrival, the building was quite dark. It seemed that the power outage has not been rectified since the day before. Although I could collect the Falke, I could not browse for other kits such as the Gundam GunCannon (Cucuruz Doan’s Island version). They were about to close anyway, after waiting for me.

The Ground Floor of the place is cavernous. By the time I was at the Third Floor’s balcony and looked down onto the Lobby, I was feeling quite nervous. This Place was THE place to go to until the turn of the Century.
The feeling is even worse when I walked on the Skywalk at the Food Court section. The Bridges were on alternate floors, and depending on which side you’re on you might have to go to the opposite side to use them. If not for the glass, a very strong breeze would waft through, and could possibly affect those on the Skybridge. The photos can’t justify my feeling of nervousness. So, with most of the shops not opening (due to blackout?) it was like walking inside a semi-abandoned place.
There was no power even inside the Shop. I could only collect my 1/35 Falke. If this did not happen, I would have gotten additional Gundams and Paints too. I always have iffy Luck almost every time I deal with them. Once, at their previous location, they were closed for a non-related event but a staff saw us and stayed open. Then one of my Pre-order came months AFTER the market had sold out the same item, and now this. I wonder what would happen in 2026…
In the end, I got what I came for but still felt empty because, I would have to go to various shops back in Kuala Lumpur to get what I need. Oh well, at least this would mean I am still within budget (I hope). This model was on the Internet for almost a year and when I wanted it, they were wither sold out or came with a higher price. The funny thing was, after i got it, a B2C platform showed a cheaper price, even if the shipping was waived. Darn.

Impulse Gaming

After some much needed rest, I decided continue on my adventure and started to look for Hobby shops within a 700m radius from the Hotel. Impulse Gaming was the only one open but alas, despite their products on display, there was no GunCannons and so I get last packet of MS Verniers instead. There were other shops on Google Map but it’s either closed or can’t be found.

Impulse Gaming was operating inside a very nice two-story shop, with the Ground Floor catering for electronic Games while the upper floor was stocked with Model kits, blind boxes and Figures.
The do have some choice selection of Gundam Kits but they were not the ones I was looking for. Still, I was amazed at the line of Iron Man related figures and kits. But they were not on my ‘to-buy’ list.

Eco-Shop

Well, this has nothing to do with Model kits but heck, why not? I always wanted to enter this place ever since I one of the outlets when we were Moving. The interior were bright and all the products were neatly arranged. It reminds me of Noko outlets. From there, I got four inter-locking yellow sliding drawers, which was long enough to replace the one that had collapsed.

There were quite a nice selection of pencil sharpeners and other stationeries which is nice for scratch-building. In the end, I went for a nice correcting tape pen, not because if its shape but I want to experiment with using it as a form of weathered painted stripe.

My Hobby Toys

This was a nice shop but had a weird opening hours and does not open on Sunday. So, by the time I managed to drag my lazy butt across from the Hotel, it was already closing.

Looking at the half-opened shutters, you can see there’s a lot of stuff jam-packed inside. Still from what Google stated, they do not sell Model kits which is OK by me. But it won’t hurt to look…
On the right of the shop was what I think, the starting of a serious Chess competition. Everything was set up, from the Chess Boards to the tables to the computers and the awards.

World Hobby Miniature

In the end, most of my purchases came from World Hobby Miniature. Unfortunately, this time, the paints I was looking for were not there but rather, replaced with AK Products. So, yeah, until I need to paint stuff, I’ll have to search for them in Kuala Lumpur.

As I was browsing at WHM’s Products, the Lady handed me a basket, saying, “Do you need a basket? You definitely need a basket!”.
And yeah, since it is now so easy to carry stuff, I ended up buying more…

AFTER THOUGHT

So, there you have it. Looking back at my ‘adventures’, I can only recommend the following points:

  1. If you need to have first dibs on the Manufacturers products, be there on the Eve of the Event, which is Friday evening. Sometimes, they are willing to entertain you. Of course, to have that ‘special’ access, you need to enter a model for the competition. Failing that, be the first to arrive the next day when the doors open at 1000.
  2. I can walk comfortably for about a kilometer or two from the Hotel but anything beyond that, Grab is your friend. To get the most out of the day/s, you need to plan your trip if you’re not going to hang around the event/ Hotel the whole day. From what shop to what shop, where to eat and so on. I do not recommend driving unles you have a friend who is a local there (ha ha). If you have your Family with you, you must really plan it out.
  3. Not everything are available on Sundays. From the Manufacturer’s tables to the kits to the Restaurants (check Google on this). So, trust me on this: when you see something you liked, just buy it on the spot and wallow in buyer’s remorse later. It is better than being told it was sold out during the time you need to, ‘think it over’.
  4. If you can, search on Facebook for those who are going because you might need time to converse. Sometimes, they would bring stuff that you liked (but do communicate before hand). And sometimes, they are the ones who can help you with your modeling, etc.
