During the time when the Internet has started gaining momentum, I would discover the Forum called TheRPF which pulled me further into the World of Movie Props. Although I was just lurking around, I would eventually discover the works of Forum members such as Adam Savage, gmprops, Jason Eaton, Ed Miarecki, and so on. It was also the place to buy stuff too (but you need to know what you’re getting into)
The Baldassari Eagle Cutaway
In the mid-90’s (1996) Roberto Baldassri created an amazing work of Art which literally made every Space:1999 Fan’s jaws drop. It was the Cutaway poster depicting the Eagle Transporter on a Launchpad. So, yeah, everyone wanted one and I was no different. Alas, due to the costly methods of the foreign exchange and a young Engineer without a Credit Card, I was unable to secure such copy.
We’re now halfway in the 20-twenties or rather, coming up to three decades since the Poster was introduced. I have resigned to the fact that I will never get the poster nor would I go crazy over it anymore. The recent Facebook posting by Joachim Mora gave me a reason to still want it, for no other reason than to satisfy the need to have it.
Is it Legal?
While trawling through the Internet (since eBay does not have it), I came across a link from reddit which allows you to download a very high resolution .jpg file, good enough to print out a 22″ x 32″ poster. I would state that this is good enough reason for me to emulate Mr. Mora’s work in the near future.
Originally, I wanted to do a Diorama of one of the few Eagles that was still being used, even a decade later after the Breakaway Event. This would allow me to weather and modify the Eagle to reflect the changes. But now, with the Poster, I would say this is a much better reason to do it proper.
