20260122 Lighting for the AndersFP Blaster Pt.30 – Will it fit the Styer receiver?

So my Programmer resurrected itself and I’m a happy camper. It is a matured product around the early 2000’s and I am still using it. One of the main reason is because I am so used to its ZIF (Zero Insertion Socket) as compared to its more updated and efficient brethren which uses ICSP (In-circuit Serial Programming).

The 5mm LED

A Facebook Friend of mine has reached out to me about adapting the System for a real Steyr receiver. Originally, I designed the Lighting System based on AndersFP’s 3D file where the bottom of the ammo case is quite low. But for the Steyr receiver, the bottom has a bigger gap. After discussing with him, I was able to get some 5mm Red LEDs which I hope it would work. For the moment, I have enough parts to solder two working PCBs while the rest should be arriving soon.

I am testing two versions of the LEDs; the 5mm and the usual 5mm top hat. You can see the 5mm LED with a diffused resin lens looked brighter.
The 5mm LED has a much bigger light spread compared to the top hat version. Which is strange since the latter should be giving a much larger light radiation. This shot was quite difficult because of the PWM flickering. I had to take a lot of shots to get the two LEDs fully lit up at the same time. I was mulling on changing the programming to give it a solid light but this would drain the LiPo battery and this would mean shorter fun time with the Blaster.
The height difference of using a 5mm LED (anywhere from 8.7mm to 8.8mm, depending on the source) and a 5mm top hat (of 7.8mm). Hopefully, in a few weeks we would know which version works with the Steyr receiver…

Lastly…

Oh rats. I forgot to ask him if the receiver needs any 3mm LED holders since the AndersFP already has them in the 3D file…

Just in case you’re still wondering which LiPo battery that more or less fits into the whole Ammo case, this is the one I am using, which is the 701230. If you want, you can use a double-sided foam tape to stick it there. Do not force it or else it might break and touch the LEDs and cause a short/ explosion/ fire/ devalued stock market, etc.
