Of Modules and Future-proofing
First of all, I did not realise that such Company exists that creates customisable PCs and Laptops which is not only modular but more importantly, repairable. Long ago, the concept was tested on mobile phones but it eventually died out. The concept is great as it kind of gives the user the feeling of future-proofing their Phone. However, the down-side is that the design of the product will never be optimised in terms of resources and power drain. More importantly, I am not going to be holding a (falling apart?) Lego brick for years while others have a much ‘better’ product.
Framework
Enter Framework. This Company sells PCs and Laptops that can be customised, replaceable and also, make your own designs. They have even released the relevant files such as open-source licenses, documentation, 3D printable designs, firmwares, etc. on their own GitHub. You just have to prepare your own OS (even Linux), storage and memory. So, for those who are more technically inclined or just want to go to the DIY route for their PCs, Framework could be a great place to start.
