I HAZ A WEBCAMZ
So. I have a Webcam which has a manual 1.8mm or 2.8mm Focusing lens. It’s not much but once I made some videos, I can then see if the concept can be improved, budget pending. I want to use this Webcam to showcase the stuff that I do on the Works Table.
All through the years, I was either using other Mobile Phone stands or balancing on the tops of cans to get the shots I needed. Sadly, the hand shakes or sudden jerks are something which can be quite distracting. I am very sure there are Apps for Mobile Phones to turn them into Webcams too but the first step right now is to create some kind of stand which is universal for both formats.
I MAKE DE STANZ
Originally, the plan was to just bolt the webcam to a long stick secured from a folding shelf hinge above the Works Table. Although convenient, it is not portable. Conventional stands comes in a few format which I find them either not stable enough or, limits my shot.
1. Conventional Tripod
The Webcam sits on top of the whole assembly and this gives you a frontal or above frontal shot. It would require more space on the Works Table and also, it would be very difficult to get a bird’s eye-view shot even if I try. Moreover, my arms would be hitting the tripod since it is needed to be very close.
2. Gorilla Tripod
Despite it’s price, this tripod was almost ideal for a lot of situations. But for my situation, I would need to construct some horizontal bars for it to cling to. So it is the same as making my own Webcam stand.
3. Selfie Stick
Yeah,… but no. I’d need something to secure the stick, either from the table or, from the shelves above me. And it being a lightweight cylindrical stick, it would definitely wobble.
4. As for the Rest…
They would all give me the same result, which is either a full frontal or a slightly above shots but not the full bird’s eye-view.
PARTS FOR THE WEBCAM STAND
Below are the list of materials which I have used to far:
1x 8 feet PVC pipe
4x PVC elbow Joints
4x PVC T-Joints
1x Spring clip
When opportunity allows, I might want to swap out the current 1.8mm or 2.8mm lens to a 6mm lens or even a Multifocal version. This way, not only will you not be able to see the PVC tubes at the sides, I can get closer to the subject. The second bar at the rear is for lighting should I need it.
