So, yeah, an AMT top over a Revell bottom.
We all know that both AMT and Revell had the digital data to re-create the Razor Crest as a 1/72nd model kit. We also know that each of these two manufacturers has their own ideas in creating the scale model. And as of this year, their differences are quite obvious. Anyway, there are some very curious questions that bugged me since last year:
THE QUESTIONS
Will the Revell Cargo Bay fit into the AMT Body?
Will the AMT Engine fit into the Revell’s engine pods?
I know its silly as I have planned out the purpose of these two models. Deep inside, the answers are a possible YES. But it would require sacrifices and also, plastic surgeries. As I have mentioned before, although both models looked almost the same, their internals are not.
THE CARGO BAY
The AMT Razor Crest does not have a cargo bay. What it has instead was a big hump acting as an anchor to the metal rod connected to the base. So, if I had the AMT, I would be building the Razor Crest in flight or approaching landing mode. For the Revell, because all three ramps can be in opened position, I can pose it in a landed pose or even in a space port diorama.
What I loved about the Revell in this regard is that its cockpit floor patterns are molded into the part. The semi-round holes (arrows) at the cockpit can be puttied off. You will need to drill out four holes (‘X’) for the ceiling lighting. As for the rear, another hole or position for a LED to shine out and onto the ramp.
THE ENGINES OR WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO THAT?
During the test fitting, it is possible to fit the AMT engine detail onto the Revell Engine pods. However, they require some extensive plastic mangl… er. surgery.
