This is the 11th Year for Malcom which is the brainchild of WH Ming of World Hobby Miniatures of Penang. There are a lot of stories on how he formed it but this is not the post. What this post does is to highlight the events that took place over the weekend, and my experience. This time, it was held in Setia SPICE Convention Centre instead of the Cititel Hotel, Penang. Yes, the event is now growing and it even has the support of Tourism Ministry.
Staying nearby the Setia SPICE Convention Centre has its perks, mainly because there were three places of interest nearby. I was hoping to come with my Family again but separate commitments forced this ideal to be impossible.
Destiny Electronics
While I was looking at Google Maps for some possible places to visit, Destiny Electronics came up. And based on the images from Google, this could be a great place to go. It was the first place I went to after checking in at the Hotel as they’re closing at 5pm. By the time I reach ed the place, I guessed I had about 25 minutes to spare. But it was not to be as they started to close at 10 minutes to, with the lights going off one by one. After reading the Google Reviews, I realised that this was the most friendliest place ever. But seriously, for me, the two Ladies (ok, the older one who interacted with me) were quite civil. I regreted not remembering to ask for the 1/4W 390 Ohm resistors, which now I have to source online since I rarely go to Pasar Road anymore. Sadly, like most places of interest, they close at 1700 and do not open on Saturdays.
Lastly, there is an issue with their Website which tells you to go to their new one…
As I stood facing the front of the Shop, I did not realise there is a possibility of an upper floor. But later, when I was exploring the place, I doubt it was accessible unless you’re Staff or something.
This was my first vie when I entered the place. You could say, my Jaw dropped and I kinda forgot to pick it up. If I were to compare this place with the ones in Pasar Road, none could come close.
There were a lot of components hung in what looked like endless rows
I could get lost in this and had the dreaded feeling that I could not cover the shop not able to get anything. The feeling is like in the first Matrix Movie where Neo asked for Guns. Lots of Guns. Then I noticed the mirror…
This is the illusion which made the shop looked bigger than it physically can.
One good thing is what I was very quickly, able to see and feel the switches which was otherwise impossible from an online shop.
Who you gonna call? Unfortunately, I dod not have the measurements with me and therefore, I could not get what I wanted. So my Afterlife Pack hose connectors would have to be from China.
The modules on this shelf, at one time, would be my goto. However, since I have most of them, well… I had to pass as time was running out.
There was, at one time, I would go crazy for electronic kits.
The last section before I leave (lights were already being turned off) and this was so breathtakingly.. OK, I could not find the words to describe my emotions. Even when I turned on my Engineer mode, I was still breathless.
Man, oh man, oh man…
If only these were in yellow…
The very one thing which annoyed me was the transactions which was either cash or, TouchNGo. I did not like the latter since I had to top it up manually and is reserved only for Tolls.
So, yeah, I completely forgot about the resistors…
My haul was the RM8.95 copper braid which I hoped could be used on my car and the RM4.50 soldering iron bit which I hope is the right size since mine is already rusting.
Airbrush Odyssey Studio
This is a brand new shop with the other half being a TCG called The Mulligan Cove.
You know you’re in the right place when you see this huge sign outside. And yeah, no shoes inside, which is OK for me because walking on the wooden covered floors kinda felt nice.
Immediately, seeing the fully stocked rack of GSI Creos’s Mr. Color made me very happy. My lacquer paints were either these or, Modo.
I almost got this but I was looking for dark gray or, white as the design of the decals were exactly what I was looking for
It’s going to be a lovely place and I hope I can comeback to visit them next year.
Just located a floor above, was the Modelland Workshop. I first found this place, when the were at 21, Jalan Magazine 10300 Penang, Malaysia. But subsequent Malcom trips did not allow me the opportunity to visit them. Anyway, the place is a lot cooler and I was lucky enough to get some choice ‘out of production’ items.
Based on the Internet, the contact number is: 012-430 5530 Email modelland_88@yahoo.com
The layout is quite similar to the original place which I visited long ago. You’d have to look very carefully, inch-by-inch, if you want to search to treasures. There are some Gundams in poly bags which I was tempted to get but they’re not the actual subjects I was looking for.
The original owner ‘retired’ and thus is unable to work on these models. The contents of the Boxes were intact and so, yeah. Funnily enough, I did not go nuts on the model above when it came out. It was only when in The Mandalorian when Cobb Vanth used one of the engines as a speeder bike that I started to search for the model despite having paid for a 3D file.
One great feature of the Setia SPICE Convention Centre is that you can take a Lift to the top of the Roof where one can Jog, Roller Skate or even, well, take Wedding Photos. Nearby on the right, would be the children’s playground. I would come up here (because there’s places to sit) when I get too tired from walking or too cold from the air-conditioning.
The only thing I hated, apart from out of order toilets and very sensitive flush sensors, broken down escalators, misaligned switches & panels, the lack of seating would be the car parks. Each section of the Centre has its own parking and are not connected to other sections.. So, when the GPS brought me to one, I had to use stairs and ramps to get up to the Roof before I could reach Malcom at the bottom.
In summary
Food and stuff are within reach and the only issue would be on what to eat. Except Sushi Mentai. That place is full of people. Plus, my Hotel room sticks of plastic or something weird. So, with all these new found points of interest, would I go there again?
Definitely. I have bought a lot of things despite my main aim is to get a model kit with an interior as source of greeblie…

Below are the links to the Piscean Works Photo Album which contains about more than 1,200 images, which I think some were duplicated. There was an error during the uploading process to Facebook, which I had to delete and restart. I am sorry that many of the images are not in sequence, no thanks to Facebook not do they contain much notes since after writing them, FB’s confirm button or its equivalent were greyed out.
