20261017 3D Eagle

20261017 3D Eagle

While I was searching for a 3D Figure of Ryan Gosling as Agent K in Blade Runner 2049 (in anticipation of the arrival of Bellfine’s Agent K Spinner), I came across this nice looking (accurate?) Space 1999 Eagle from the author, mriconoclast from Cults3D. Do look at his collection of other 3D models, which includes parts of the Cygnus from The Black Hole and the Shuttle Bays from a Reliant Class Starship. The download is in two files;

  1. Full Eagle with Cargo Pod, and
  2. A Passenger Pod with Interior.
I love lighting the shelves where they hang the suits. The image below shows how it was done.
I just drilled some small holes for the wires connected to the 0805 SMD LEDs. As for the other lights, the resin was more or less thin enough to create this effect. But the effect is lost if the bright ceiling lights are installed.
I like how this part of the wall details were done. It does look as if it just came out from the Series.
However, the details on the side walls here are missing the strips and the long lighting detail.
This is the first 3D file, which contains the Eagle and the Cargo Pod.

Peeking into the Command Module, I was disappointed that the there are no details on the side walls on either sides of the seats.
I tried importing the .stl file into Sketchup, which took ages to load (about an hour). Then again, this is the only 3D software I was familiar with.
The whole 7.733Mb object was, I think, grouped into one single piece and when I tried to ‘explode’ it into smaller parts, I had to shut down SketchUp after almost two hours of ‘Not Responding’.
So, I decided to use AutoDesk’s Fusion, something which I have not played with for years. And, oh, the Trial Period has ended.
Thanks, but no thanks, Autodesk.
In the end, I used Blender and it is going to take me ages to do what I want with the file. Every ‘thing’ that I want to delete, it asks to confirm the action. I am not sure if this is a standard function of the software.

Anyway, what I want to do is to strip the whole passenger pod of its roofing, side walls, etc. I want to see if I can resize and fit it inside to match the 1/48 Passenger Pod. Alex Jackson used to sell the interior kit under Century Castings but he has since moved to other interests. But at the end of the day, I need to ask myself, it is worth the trouble since the whole pod would be closed off.

The only reason to continue would be to complete the whole Eagle model as a cutaway as seen in Roberto Baldassari’s poster.
