20240822 Spirit Proton Pack Electronics Upgrade (Lights Only) is now on Amazon

I just remembered that there are still 2 more units of the Spirit Pack upgrade systems left. My friend has updated me that it is no longer being sold in Etsy but in Amazon. This was produced during the time when the whole World had to stay indoors as part of the New Normal. So, getting material and components were quite an uphill task. Most of the shops were closed and to make things worse, overseas shipping was delayed due to the Ports closed. So, yeah, I had to do a lot of stuff to get things done and my Plans went from A to E.

Most of us never thought to see a Proton Pack on Malaysian shelves unless we pay a lot for it. Those would be made of resin which comes with years of sourcing movie accurate parts while you train your back to carry the heavy load. So, with the Spirit Pack, my aim was to replace the lights with something more accurate. I was only able to concentrate on the lights since sound was still a bit of a challenge for me. I don’t think I am going to make more since it was such a hassle to get the clear and red acrylic lens cut, print the manuals and so on. Besides, this is meant for kids to run around during Halloween and the Parent can upgrade it with minimal soldering.

By the time both Spirit Halloween and Haslab came out with the 1:1 packs, I guess that’s that.

What does it do?

The system mainly replaces the Blue Power Cell indicators and the red Cyclotron, each comes with their own laser-cut acrylics. I used the first movie as reference for the light sequences of all four characters. Each character has its own Power Cell and Cyclotron sequence and can be selected via a jumper. And the best part is, you can use the existing batteries or from a USB Mobile Phone charger.

There are four circuit boards in there, from the Power Cell, the Cyclotron and a small adaptor which allows you connect to a switch (just like Afterlife version). This image did not show the laser-cut acrylics which took me ages to get it right since I do not have a laser printer. In then end, it went in like a dream.
These are the contents of the Upgrade. There is not much soldering except when you wire in your own power switch (like the time when we saw it in Afterlife). Just plug in the Spirit Pack’s original battery pack to the adaptor, replace the circuit boards and you’re ready to go.
Don’t worry about the Blue LEDs wonky arrangement. I intentionally did that since image from the original props has the blue lights misaligned. In the bottom middle is the jumper where you can select any of the four characters and the light sequence will follow that.
This is the video to show the light sequence differences in each of the four characters.
(from L-R): Egon, Peter, Ray and Winston (if I remember this correctly)
