20230425 That Scare in the Morning

And so, this morning, I had a panic attack.
I seldom experience this unless I realised I have either made a big mistake or, experiencing a panic attack. What started the ball rolling was, I got bored at work. And to entertain myself, I decided to go to JLCPCB’s Website using my Mobile, just to check on the delivery status of the Razor Crest boards, which I have ordered this month. The specs are there, 1mm thickness, and coloured in green (OK, this was the first mistake). Then I took a look at the Board design and noticed the errors.

THE SECOND MISTAKE

This 3D view and the Gerber layer previews can only be displayed if you went to JLCPCB’s Website using a PC.
And so, just like the image says, the four (yellow arrows) holes are there.

The four 2mm holes I specified (when viewed on the Mobile) was not there! To me, these four holes are the most important features of the board because without it, the effect would be lost. So, for the whole day, I began to think of how to rectify this very mistake. To be exact, this very SECOND mistake. The first mistake was ordering the board in the default industrial PCB shade which is green and not black. If I am not mistaken, the green mask layer is a little opaque. So, the only solution is to get some 2mm carbide drill bits and (sigh) a high-speed drill with a stable stand. Something which I am not looking forward to due to the price tag and the high possibility of being shipped to me from more than 5 Km away.

By a stroke of luck, during lunch hour, a colleague of mine has a stuck thermostat. While he parked his car for the engine to cool down, I realised he he stopped his car in front of the hardware shop which I planned to go after work. Suffice to say, I got some normal drill bits just for the sake of reducing my worries. But alas, after coming home, the drill bits were actually 1.4mm and I bought quite a bit since the tough FR4 boards tend to blunt non-carbide drill bits in seconds. This is the problem when I forgot how big 2mm was and the shop assistant did not have any measuring device.

WHAT DID THE WEBSITE SAY?

Once I arrived home, I started to look for some choice drills and stands online. Once again, I looked at JLCPCB website (this time, through my PC and not mobile) just to rub it in, it showed me that the four holes were plainly there! Even double-checking on the PCB software, I did specify the four holes! All this dreaded apprehension for naught, wasting my energy worrying about something and yes, also in writing this short blog for the day.

To be honest, I really cannot wait for the PCBs to arrive. I am very excited because this would be my very first flexiPCB. Plus, on the other PCB, I would be using LEDs and the fours holes both as an anchor and ceiling lighting, something which I have never done before.

Anyway, anyone want some 1.4mm drill bits?
