20240728 A trip to Pasar Road

I’ve wanted to drive down to this area for weeks but there were always plans. This was because we have not really complete moving house as there are a lot more things to being over. Anyway, I had a small window of opportunity since I needed to change my Car’s Engine Oil come next Saturday. While getting the supplies, I can drop by Pasar Road which is just a street away.

Pasar Road on a Sunday

The most irritating part about coming to Pasar Road on any given Sunday is that the ‘Electronics’ part of the street are closed. Only the ‘Electricals’ are open. With the trees cut since years ago, the whole street has become quite hot. The good things is that there are not much people. Maybe its the missing trees but this means I can look around without bumping into people.

As luck would have it, the only shop open was Megnumtronic. One of the issues with these shop was they only accept cash. With only a RM50 note, I had to limit what I could buy which were some soldering iron bits and a Cat6 network cable…

While browsing at the shop, I was surprised at the soldering iron section!
They have Goot Soldering Irons! It costs much more than a Hakko but man, a Goot! And the 30W is right in front of me, ready for the taking.
They also do have some soldering iron bits which I was really after. Although my Hakko uses a 4mm, these 3.6mm 30R/40R should still fit.
Then when the owner said they are now able to accept online payment, well, the Goot soldering iron came home with me.
I am tempted to cut off the mains plug and replace them with a UK 3-pin plug with a light but for now, it will be my back-up soldering iron should my red Hakko stops working.
The haul (L-R): 3x Goot 30R/40R soldering iron bits, 1x 14500 Li-Ion battery for a torchlight (which has now gone missing), the Goot 30W soldering iron, a project box for something which I have not planned yet and the 5metre Cat6 cable for the office.

I am not sure why the soldering iron bits always end up rusting like this. But I do know they started from the burnt section, either from the flux or bits of melted heat-shrink.
