(Thanks to 1Toy for helping me with this Photo and their pack)
My Haslab Pack arrived about last Friday. Gilaposter has announced and messaged me but I was too busy. You can say that throughout the World, for the past 10 days or so, everyone who supported the Haslab crowd-funding Project got their packs. Or are starting to get their Fedex notifications.
YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOOSE
Of course, then there are the news. Some were oblivious to the pro-orders and are understandably upset, some whined about scalpers starting their work, some complained that the Europeans got theirs first, some said it differed from the prototype show in the video and so on. And for some Spirit Pack owners….
THE PICKUP
Admittedly, it was my first time going to Gilaposter store and so, I stupidly parked my car about 200 meters away. I said stupidly because we spend about an hour chit-chatting while the eggs and ice-cream were being boiled inside the car. I’m grateful to the guys (Ariff and Azen) who brought the pack down and put it into my car. After I got it out of the parking lot, of course. And yes, it is heavy indeed.
THE TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
Getting the Spengler Wand to ‘interact’ with the pack is a real challenge since there are no controlling wires. There are many feedbacks about the Pack staying on for much longer, reacting with the Wand, Easter Eggs sound effects, cable connections, and so on.
I have yet to open mine but it will be after the Chinese New Year. But coming back to the interactivity issue, my theory is that the Pack is sensing some voltage/current drop from the Wand (Mr. Savage just proved it with his YouTube video below) and thus, reacts as best as it could. So, if I were to replace the 4x D-Cells batteries with a say a Lipo Pack boosted to 6 volts, this might be an issue. More so, if the original D-Cells are running down. But like they said, the Pack is a delight for those who want to modify them.
HELLO, MR. SAVAGE
INTERACTIVITY: STAYIN’ ALIVE
THE MODS: REVERSE CYCLOTRON
THE MODS: VOLUME CONTROL
THE ALICE LC-1 FRAME
Yes, these are going to be ‘gone’ since there were more than 21,000 backers. I would like to have one but with the Pack weighing at 16Kg, that’s just asking for hernia and more. So, I’ll have to think about it once I get that box opened. No hurry though. I am excited but it can wait.
MODIFICATIONS?
I’m not sure what I’ll be doing to the Pack but the Power Cells’s blue tinted sheet has to go and maybe, I’ll go with a Second Movie ribbon cable (Vintage Belden 36 Conductor Cable. Production 09-25-1987) or maybe even the first movie (But that is expensive). Then, there is the power which needs to be looked into if I want the pack to stay on for more than 200 seconds.
